Photo GalleriesI discovered in the first grade that I was not blessed with "drawing gene," so I turned to photography instead. It's not clear that I have any talent for photography, either, but they'll sell anybody a camera. Ann and I travel quite a bit, and we take lots of pictures Here, is a collection of galleries of photos taken over the years. |

| Nature: Autumn 2007 We took the "Nature Photography" class at Nashville State Coummunity College in the fall of 2007. That meant getting up every morning at the crack of dawn and driving off to some scenic location to take pictures before the light got bad -- which is to say, bright. This collection is presented as a slide show at flickr.com | ![]() |
Ireland: October 2006: We spent two weeks touring the western and southern counties of Ireland, traveling in a giant figure-eight that started at Shannon Airport, went as far north as Achill Island, as far south as Cork, and as far est as the Dingle Peninsula. You can view this entire collection as a flickr slideshow. Makse sure you click the "i" button in the middle of the frame to see the captions! We also produced an elaborate photo album using "MyPublisher.com" . To view the album as an Adobe Acrobat file, click here. If the resulting page asks for an ID#, enter "280931" When you are asked for a password, enter 761273 . There are 32 counties in Ireland, but in two weeks we only managed to see six of them. We're going to have to go back. |

| Cozumel, May 2006 -Another dive trip, to the island of Cozumel at the western edge of the Caribbean Sea, off the coast of Cancun, Mexico. We spent a week at the Scuba Club Cozumel, an all-inclusive dive resort with room, meals and diving included in the deal. The diving was fabulous, though the reefs are still showing signs of damage from Hurricane Wilma in October 200 -- "the most intense hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic Basin.+ And we didn't realize until we jumped off the boat and started floating away that Cozumel is the "drift dive capital of the world." | ![]() |
| Portland, Oregon - December 2005: We spent a week in Portland, where both of Ann's sons, James (aka "JB" or "Beamskie") and Robert (aka "Robert") are both living now. We were there the weekend before Christmas. Portland is a very interesting city... maybe what Nashville would be like if it wasn't buried here in The South. The city has a very progressive, Bohemian quality. Oregon, is, after all, a "blue" state... no wonder we felt so comfortable there. | ![]() |
| Scuba Diving in Belize - July 2005: We spent 8 days in the Central American country of Belize (formerly British Honduras) in July, 2005. Belize is possibly the poorest country we have ever been to, our first real experience with anything like the "Third World." The diving was great, the food was great, so we're really not complaining, but there were other aspects of the trip that were eye-opening, to put it mildly. This collection brought to you by Shutterfly.com . Click "view pictures" and then "slide show," then use the conrols in the upper right to "play" the entire collection or advance individually through the frames. | ![]() |
In the winter/spring of 2005, I took a photo journalism class at Nashville State Community College. One of the assignments was to create a "photo essay" of whatever I wanted. I decided to spend a day and evening at Greer Stadium and photograph "A Day (and Night) At the Ballpark. Here's a look at life among the minor leagues. |

Maui 2005: We returned to Maui for two weeks in January and February, 2005. This time we went scuba diving about 10 times, and this collection includes underwater pictures from our dives. I lived on Maui for 12 years, from 1980 until 1993, but didn't start Scuba diving until he started living in land-locked Tennessee. Go figger. |

| Mystic, Connecticut: In June 2004, we went up to Connecticut for my sister's surprise 50th birthday party. Before going down to Greenwich for the festivities, we spent a couple days in Mystic, home of the Mystic Seaport Museum -- and Mystic Pizza, which turned out to be surprisingly good. | Grand Cayman Island: April 2004: This is the trip that sold us on scuba diving. We spent about a week on Grand Cayman Island, and went on a handful of dives, including "Sting Ray City" The island isn't really much to speak of, just a flat atol, but the water was clear and warm, and the diving is terrific. New England - August 2003: My Aunt Elinor, my father's sister, who I hadn't seen in years, lives on an island off the southeast coast of Maine. We went up to visit her in August, an spent abut two weeks touring New England, including two nights on Monhegan ("The Artists' Island") and a few days in Boston, with a stop at Fenway for a Red Sox/Yankees game. |

I Used To Be Jimmy Buffett: I lived on Maui from 1980 until 1992. Most of that time, I owned and operated a yacht charter service, taking tourists sailing and snorkeling in the waters around Lahaina. Recently I sifted through some of the photos of that period, condensing 12 years into about 60 frames. When I moved to Lahaina, there was one traffic light. When I left, there was one for every year I'd been there. Don Henley was right: Call some place paradise, kiss it good-bye. |

Honeymoon Sept/Oct 2002: We spent our honeymoon in England and southern Germany over two weeks in the fall of 2000. I don't think we realized what a great time we were having until we got back and looked at the pictures. Thank you, George Eastman.... The first few days we spent in the English Country side,
staying at a country hotel on the on the border with Wales in Shropshire,
then three days in London. |

In Germany,
we went straight to "Upper Bavaria" (which is actually at the
southern end of the country), and stayed in the village of Hohenshwangau.
Our hotel room window opened up to a view of one of the most famous and
beautiful castles in all the world, Neuschwanstein, built in the 1880s
by Bavaria's "Mad King" Ludwig II. These galleries were assembled
with Jasc Media Center 3. |

| Europe - Self Portraits On this trip, we also shot about 6 rolls of "2-shots" with the Canon Elph APS camera, which is ideal for "self portraits." Try the "slide-show" mode. The people in the foreground stay the same, but the backgrounds keep changing... | ![]() |
| But wait, what collection of honeymoon photos would be complete without all the pictures of the wedding that preceded it? | ![]() |
My
1949 Chevy Pickup I've got one of
those cool, post war Chevy "Advance Design" pickup trucks. Unfortunately,
I had a bit of an accident with it last fall (2000). See her in her original
glory, and watch the repair and restoration as it progresses. Another
gallery produced with Jasc Media Center.
